Name a Star

Hello all,

I asked the question "how can I name a star after somebody loved" to myself and search the answer for this question online on the web. I have written and suggested a few free registry links on the web who are dealing with star name registering on my previous post as an answer for this question.

But I have learnt something more about naming a star.

First of all, how to name a star is defined by International Astronomical Union (IAU) and this international scientific society does not deal with selling or registring names for stars commercially. Although International Astronomical Union (IAU) is responsible registring a name to each of the stars, galaxies, comets, astreoids, etc. they give historical names or catalog names to those objects in the sky.

Before buying a name for a star after someone loved I can suggest you read the Layman's Guide to Naming Stars on IAU's web page http://www.iau.org/BUYING_STAR_NAMES.244.0.html.

I know name a star as gift for someone or registring a star or an other celestial object memorial will make us happy and feel good. But a star name bought from a commercial is not official and no one working on stars will respect to your naming. All you will get will be a certificate from the firm you bought the name and this name will only be kept in the records of that registring firm.

So you will pay for a certificate that you name a star and pay for that happiness. You will not actually give that star a name which will be known by that name by everyone and every organization on the world.
